AN INCREDIABLE REDBRAMBLE IRISH SETTER

Hi, my name is Scarlett O’Hara – that’s Redbramble Scarlett O’Hara.  My breeder is Ed Dubrowsky, my mom and dad are Libby and Bob Cusson.  I am 7 years old now, and have lived in Charlotte, North Carolina since I was 10 weeks old.

My mom and I have been busy but still having fun!  I have continued my work as a Therapy Dog in the Charlotte community.  I am registered with Therapy Dogs International and helped start our local chapter, Southern Comforters.  I started working at 1 year of age, and am now a seasoned comforter and friend to many!  We visit Holy Angels in Belmont, NC with young disabled children, Presbyterian Hospital in the adult and children’s psychiatric wards, The Battered Woman Shelter (the kids love me there), and many local assisted living and Alzheimer’s homes.

I also have been working on my NADAC and AKC Agility titles.  I completed my novice NADAC title on February 3, 2002 in Fletcher, NC.  I earned 30 points for the title with 3-second place and 2 first places.

I went to the Columbia, South Carolina AKC trial on April 2002.  I completed my AKC novice title with a 1st place, 3rd place, and a Qualifying run in Atlanta, Danville, VA and Columbia respectively.

I went to the Winston Salem Dog Agility Trial, May 2002, sponsored by AKC.  I got 1st place on Sunday to add to my novice title.  I can’t do this without my Dad placing all the agility equipment in my yard-thanks Dad.

I am always the only Irish Setter at the trials.  At the trial in February there were 760 dogs and I was the only Irish Setter there.  Many people in the community come to watch the trials – most have not seen an Irish Setter.  My Mom reminds me that these trials are an excellent way to also work as a therapy dog - to show people we Irish can do it all!  They like my red hair!  I like all the pats on the head and attention; after all I am an Irish Setter!

We are visiting a summer camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina on July 19th 2002.  It is for mentally challenged children.

On my time off I sleep on my mom and dad’s bed and their leather couch.  I live with my brother Kaiser (a Rottweiler) 3 cats and 1 lop ear bunny on 1-½ acres.  I also chase squirrels and point doves in the yard.

(Note: from Libby, Scarlett’s Mom.)

Scarlett  is my 1st Irish Setter.  She is such a balanced dog, loving, gentle, curious, energetic, independent and at times stubborn.  Her intelligence has made me a better trainer.  She is never judgmental and gives unconditional love, and has a zest for life I wish we all could have.  My minister, Rev. Jim Young, gave a sermon, about how we, as people might be going to the dogs – he invited Scarlett and I to be there in church.  I was out of town – but other representatives with Therapy Dogs attended.  The lesson was that our dogs have all the attributes that we as humans should have – maybe we should be more like our dogs…

God Bless,

Libby and Bob Cusson
